# Reduce Only

**Reduce Only** ensures that orders **strictly decrease an existing position**, preventing accidental increases. When enabled, this safeguard helps traders **close or trim positions** without inadvertently expanding them.

#### **How It Works**

* The **Reduce Only instruction** is passed to the exchange on **every order slice**, ensuring that only position-reducing trades are executed.
* Prevents new position openings, limiting execution to **position reductions only**.

#### **Considerations**

* **Not available on OKX**, as the exchange does not support this functionality.
* Helps maintain **risk control** by preventing **accidental exposure increases**.

This setting is useful for traders who need to **exit or scale down positions** without risking unintended position growth.
